✖ CHARACTER:
Name: Hiyoko Tousaka
Canon: Hatoful Boyfriend
PB/Image: she has no canon appearance since she's an otome character, but this is her fanon look!
Info links: the creator's blog links to the TVTropes page when directing English Language users to info. There isn't really a good wiki, so that's what we've got.
Canon Point: post Hurtful Route extended ED
Gender & Sex: female all around
Age: 17 at time of death, but she's been a conscious ghost for an unspecified time (probably 6mo-1yr) and thus should be mentally 18.
Birthdate/Sign: April 10, Aries (not canon). I chose Aries as her sign because it seemed to fit her best of all the choices by far (though she also would fit decently with Saggitarius). Hiyoko is very much a challenge-taker, a defender of the weak, outgoing, courageous, competitive. She's lively, enthusiastic, and compassionate -- but also can easily get into arguments with her take-charge attitude, and can sometimes be insensitive and a little oblivious.
Tattoo: two inches in diameter, on the back of her right hand
Suitability: technically N/A but due to the unsure timeline I'll put something here anyway!

Hiyoko's self-sufficiency is actually a major part of her character. She is a hunter-gatherer, not just by human classification, but quite literally. She lives by herself in a mountain-side cave and hunts and forages for a significant portion of her food. Her physical ability is very high and she prefers to take care of herself rather than accept help from others (she tells her best friend that she'll MAYBE let him cook for her if she's starving, even though she later states that he's a very good cook). Her entire personality is slightly instinctual and barbaric, and she certainly considers herself a warrior. When it comes to survival, she's top-notch.

Sexuality-wise, she doesn't seem particularly interested in sex, but she's also a human girl who hangs out with and romances birds, so clearly her concept of it is a little warped anyway. She's embarrassed in a scene when Yuuya openly states that all of her pigeon friends are sexually mature while hitting on her, but it's less a blushing maiden embarrassment at the sexual concepts and more an embarrassment at his completely shameless attitude. By the ends of most of her romantic routes, she's fully prepared to enter a long-term relationship (even talks marriage with Ryouta) and sems comfortable with all this entails.

Power: fire channeling
Personality: By real world standards, Hiyoko Tousaka's life is pretty weird. In a future where birds have become sapient and the dominant creaures on Earth, and humans are a minority, she is the link between the two not-so-peaceful peoples. She attends highschool as the only human in a prominent bird school, alongside her childhood best friend (a rock dove named Ryouta) and a cast of other interesting feathered friends. Despite the frequent tension and sometimes violence between birds and humans, and despite the fact that her parents were killed in one such conflict, she seems to hold no prejudice against one of the other. In fact, she rarely acknowledges difference between the two unless it's a strict physical trait such as lifespan or wings.

To Hiyoko, everyone is equally special and each individual stands on his or her own merit as a person. She has no problem scolding aristocrats, confronting teachers, or telling any of her friends when they're full of it. She is honest and always willing to take a stand to protect the weak and teach everyone around her how to be a better person. Through each possible romantic route, Hiyoko puts a lot of effort into finding out about someone who's interested her, and in making them happy even when that means pushing them. She'll call someone out on his faults, but she always does it to encourage them to confront their issues and grow. She's fearless, essentially, when it comes to making friends and taking care of those friends, and it makes her valuable to most everyone she connects with.

Of course, Hiyoko is fearless in the rest of her life too. Outside of school, she lives alone in a cave that she expands by digging herself. Though she does eat cafeteria food at school and has presumably store-bought udon every day, at least a good portion of her food is hunted or foraged by hand. She is physically oriented, beginning the game with 1 wisdom, 1 charisma, and 800 vitality for stats. When she goes for a run, she gets into the zone and can run all day without paying attention, even travelling as far as a two-hour drive from home. She's even described as "berserker type" and is very much in touch with her warrior ancestors. At one point, when choosing to go home rather than hang out at school on the day befor classes start, she says "I must return to my people with the spoils of war, lay my bloodied sword at the feet of my great king, and celebrate my conquest of all the lands from here to distant Macedonia." At tanabata, of the three or four choices given as her wish, two of them are wishing to take over the world (one by force, one from the shadows), and one of the New Years' charms she can choose to buy is "good luck in conquest".

Hiyoko also, like anyone, has a good deal of faults. She has little patience for heavy reading and isn't particularly smart unless the player makes her go to math class on elective day repeatedly during the game. She is hotheaded, and thus sometimes makes stupid decisions or says insensitive things. Since she tries to see the best in everyone right from the beginning, she's slow on the uptake if someone is doing something suspicious. She'll trust someone until they are blatantly bad or until she feels that someone she loves is in danger, which can lead her to misstep and get herself or others into trouble. She's also pretty simple, not thinking about things from a philosophical standpoint at all. She cares for what's right in front of her, and while this is a healthy and happy stance for her, it sometimes can put others in an awkward spot.

All in all, Hiyoko is a quirky, humorous, and friendly girl who will go to any length necessary for the sake of her friends, and who stands on her own two feet with no regrets. She is strong but kind, strange but endearing, and not even death can stop her from doing her best to help those that she loves.

✖ SAMPLES:
"Zodion" First-Person Network Entry: [The video comes on to a girl's face, set in a broad smile.]

This is kind of like the intertubes, right? So there's a lot of people out there that I can talk to? It's pretty cool!

I was really mad when I first woke up here, but if I'm not alone it means we can all do something to solve this! Is somebirdie out there working on it? I'm sure we've all got people and places to get back to, so working together's our best option!

In the meantime, I guess I'd better settle in and make friends. Anybirdie know where I can get some udon? I haven't had any in way too long!

"Zodionlogs" Third-Person Prose Entry: The light when the big steel doors opened was intense. Even without a real body to appreciate it, Hiyoko could see the brightness, blinding after such a long, long time in the dark. When it faded, surely the first thing she'd see would be Sakuya's face. And then soon, she and Ryouta would be "okay" again, able to go back to their happy lives with their friends.

Instead, it faded to the sight of a place she'd never seen before, with no Ryouta or Sakuya or Nageki to be seen or heard. No lab -- no familiar metal-and-glass imagery at all. It was like going from one dream to another, only this one didn't have even the few precious people that had stayed by her side in the last one. She turned quickly in a circle, confusion mingling with anger and a little fear.

"Hey! Who did this?!" she snapped, hands curling into fists. Who'd just take her somewhere else at such an important moment? Who could spantontaneously move a ghost? It didn't make any sense, and the timing was the absolute worst. Hadn't they gone through enough? It was time for the waiting to end. It was time for things to move ahead and get better. So it had to be a dream, but... she didn't really dream, as a ghost. Since she wasn't truly asleep, it was impossible to dream the same way she had when she was alive. Still, nothing else seemed to go together in order.

It was when her hands began to sting from her nails cutting into her palms that it dawned on her that something else had changed, too. She looked down, uncurling her hands, and stared. One was beginning to bleed -- to bleed, for real. Like she had a real, living, warm body. Suddenly her anger at being maybe-kidnapped melted away, derailed by the realisation that she was, in this dream, alive. There wasn't pain in dreams, though, was there? That was why you were supposed to pinch yourself to wake up. So maybe it wasn't a dream after all? Maybe it was a real ghostnapping. But if she wasn't "dreaming", where was she? If Sakuya had come for them, it meant her brain could be fixed and put in a working body of some sort, but she was pretty sure it shouldn't happen so suddenly, without explanation, and that it shouldn't leave her in a completely unfamiliar place.

Hiyoko took a deep breath, trying to put her jumbled thoughts in line. Alright. What was the best way to handle this? "Why" was importat of course, but standing there worrying wouldn't help anybirdie. She had to take action! First, explore her surroundings. Her hunter-gatherer instincts would be sure to guide her to clues, and if nothing else she'd have an idea of where to hide or run to if she had to. Just in case there were enemies she had to defeat, she had to know the lay of the land! She turned again, this time slowly as she decided where to investigate first. The altar in the middle was the move obvious place. She was pretty sure a real warrior would be cautious, but if there was something helpful in the box she wasn't going to waste time overchecking things. She had to get a move on, so she could get home as soon as possible!

Boldly, she marched right on up to it, over the ring of water without even thinking about it. The water rushed up the moment she did, accompanied by a stinging pain on the back of her hand. She looked down before worrying about the water, but there was no visible wound -- not even a needle mark to worry. There was just a pale mark in a weird shape, which she definitely didn't remember having before she died. She stared for a moment, rubbing at it to see if it'd come off. When it didn't, she made a face, chewing on her lip in confusion. Maybe this new body was just a weird one. Had it been someone else's once, who like tattoos, or had it been put on her for some other reason? Either way, it was weird -- but another thing to be found out about later. So she looked up at the water, just in time to see her reflection -- and jumped, making a terribly unflattered sound. The water was already going back to where it was, but -- that reflection had been naked, and she certainly wasn't naked as far as she could see! What sort of water jumped up and showed a naked mirror?! What kind of pervert would make something like that?! Or was the water itself a pervert?

Whatever or whatever it was, Hiyoko made a decision in that moment that when she found the one responsible for all of this, she was going to kick their butt. But first, she'd search this box for clues. Hiyoko Tousaka was on the job, and she'd conquer this mystery no matter what!
